3.Advocate. Sign the petition at HCAN. There's been a flub in the system and unfortunately Eric, like many others, have fallen through the cracks. Our leaders need to be made aware that we need change and they need to do the right thing.
4.Become an Organ Donor Too many people die each year waiting for an organ transplant. Consider becoming an organ donor by visiting Donate Life America.
5.Donate $1. or more to the LifeGiver Project, the proceeds of which benefit Eric De La Cruz and/or other heart transplant patients in his situation (see below for more information).

Ok -- I have 5 minutes before I have to jump off the computer and head to the hospital. I tried to get thru as many replies as poss. (cont'd..)I know I've missed a lot, but I promise to try to get back to more of you later. Eric arrived safely last night and was freaked out by all (cont'd..)the attn. He was immediately surrounded by a bunch of nurses, met two doctors, and was poked and prodded for the remainder of the night. He (cont'd..)didnt look too happy about it, but we were just happy that he was getting care.Today is a big day for him.They start the evaluation process. (cont'd..)They will run more tests, he will meet more doctors....I know it's overwhelming for him, but it's actually a pretty involved process just 4 (cont'd..)the hospital to decide whether or not you are a candidate for transplant. Once they determine you are, THEN they put you on the list. So we (cont'd..)havent crossed that finish line yet. But we are getting there. His nurse Reggie told us they just transplanted a 28 year old guy a few (cont'd..)weeks ago, so that was promising! Think of Eric today as he goes through all these tests. I am looking forward to being able to report the (cont'd..)moment they FINALLY put him on that list for a heart. Wish him luck today. And please -- dont forget to be a donor. So important. More l8er! Here at hospital w Eric. Seeing a lot of messages going around tha t say he is on a list for transplant. Not true. He needs 2 b evaluated (cont'd..)First. After his evaluation then they determine if he is a candidate and they can put him on list. His evaluation will take place tomorrow. (cont'd..)I thought they would do it today but a lot of his doctors etc....aren't here because its a holiday wknd. He is really tired and has been (cont'd..)Sleeping all day. He is in pain bc they put a swan gans (sp?) and catheter in. We r sitting w him and he is eating spaghetti. The nurses r (cont'd..)Bringing him some pain meds. He's been taking loritab so he can deal w all the tubes and wires he has running in and out. They have more (cont'd..)In him here than they did in Vegas. I know they all help him, but difficult not to see them as some weird science experiment. I just want (cont'd..)him to get better soon. More later...
I know this sounds absolutely insane but they just took Mom to the ER. She fell and may have broken something. She thinks her knee or rib. (cont'd..)We were leaving the ICU and they have these automatic doors. It swung open with Mom in front of it and she flew forward and landed on her (cont'd..)Frontside, banging up her hands and knees. She wasn't able to move so I had them call the paramedics (no ER in wing of hosp we are in). I (cont'd..)Almost don't want to tell the story because how does something like that happen on top of everything else. I feel really bad for her. I know (cont'd..)How stressed out she's been and she keeps cursing the situation bc she doesn't want to take time away from Eric. I kinda can't believe what (cont'd..)Just happened either, but hopefully its nothing and she'll just need some time in bed to recuperate. Oy vey. When it rains it pours. This is (cont'd..)Unreal. My friend Paul T was here to help us get to our hotel. He can't believe it either. I honestly don't know whether to laugh or cry. (cont'd..)(cont'd..)Instead I just tweet. It makes me feel better.
My other friend Paul just said -- I don't even think you should tell anyone bc how could they even believe u? Now 2 in the hospital? This is (cont'd..)Insane. The good news is Mom's totally coherent. I think she is just scared and stressed out. She doesn't want to create more problems. She (cont'd..)Just wants to make sure we can be there for Eric.
So mom broke her knee and bruised her ribs. Her knee's been mobilized and she has a walker now. Important thing is she is staying positive. (cont'd..)We'll get thru this. It's just one more bump in the road, but we'll get thru this.
